Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq

In the wake of victory by defeating the terrorist group ISIS in Iraq, the State of Kuwait and the international community rallying behind it announced to hold the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq. The conference is the first of its kind and aims to achieve security and stability in Iraq through a developmental start in the reconstruction of Iraq and the achievement of the effective participation of the international community in all its sectors whether public, through sovereign funds, the private sector, or civil society institutions, active in the humanitarian and developmental area.
To achieve such aim, the World Bank is participating in this conference as co-chair to provide the required guarantees to the private sector and to enhance the concept of guarantees for investment in Iraq.
The conference focuses primarily on engaging the Iraqi people and achieving the elements of stability and well-being through rebuilding the infrastructure, providing job opportunities, reviving Iraq's economy and opening the door for investment in it.
The purpose of this conference is to mobilize renewed international support for Iraq’s reconstruction and development plans and to enhance collaboration between bilateral donors, multi-lateral development institutions and private sector investors as part of this process. Specifically, the conference aims at:
Emphasizing the balance between Iraq’s stabilization, reconstruction, and development plans on the one hand and the National Reconciliation Program on the other hand, while attracting private Investment to help in the reconstruction process.
The Conference will be held under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of State of Kuwait. Experts Meetings will be held for two days, with participation from bilateral, and multilateral donor organizations, private sector organizations, and civil society organizations, followed by a Ministerial Meeting for Ministers of Foreign Affairs on the third day. The Conference is co-chaired by the State of Kuwait, Republic of Iraq, European Union, United Nations , and the World Bank .
The Government of the State of Kuwait and the Government of the Republic of Iraq are the organizers of the Conference in collaboration with the World Bank Group
The agenda span a three-day period. The first day will focus on Iraq’s reconstruction agenda, international development assistance and NGO-led development work in Iraq. The second day will examine private sector investment opportunities in Iraq. The third day is the Ministerial Meeting for Ministers of Foreign Affairs. The Conference is expected to end with a declaration by the Conference organizers and participants together with new and renewed financial support consisting of grant and developmental lending programs and private sector investments.
